  • Q: How does MTM® Clear•Aligner work?

    A:

MTM® Clear•Aligner In-Office utilizes orthodontic pliers to fabricate clear plastic aligners that move teeth with integrated "force points". It is used by clinicians nationwide as a standalone esthetic treatment, for mid-course correction or refinement of orthodontic cases, and in preparation for other cosmetic or therapeutic procedures. The MTM® Clear•Aligner Service Center combines this process with digital modeling.

  • Q: How does MTM® Clear•Aligner differ from other aligners?

    A:

MTM® Clear•Aligner utilizes a unique “open pathway” architecture that helps facilitate tooth movement. Additionally, integrated "force points" eliminate the need for bonded attachments, reducing chairtime, improving esthetics, and making it easy for patients to seat and remove their aligners.

  • Q: What are the advantages of using MTM® Clear•Aligner Service Center versus other clear aligner services?

    A:

Unlike other clear aligner services, MTM® Clear•Aligner is priced on a flat fee basis. There is no limit to the number of aligners included in your initial Treatment Plan, and one free refinement/course correction is included if needed. Thus your cost is predictable.

  • Q: What conditions can be treated with MTM® Clear•Aligner?

    A:

MTM® Clear•Aligner Service Center is indicated for the treatment of anterior tooth malocclusions in patients with permanent dentition (i.e. all second molars). Utilizing a series of incremental minor tooth movements, MTM® Clear•Aligner sequentially positions teeth by way of continuous gentle force.

Utilizing a series of incremental minor tooth movements (torque, tipping, rotation and bodily movement), MTM® Clear•Aligner sequentially positions teeth by way of continuous gentle force.

  • Q: Is MTM® Clear•Aligner recommended for all age groups?

    A:

MTM® Clear•Aligner is recommended for patients who have permanent dentition (all second molars), and are able to adhere to the program’s use and care requirements.

  • Q: What does "free refinement" mean?

    A:

Each clear aligner case is eligible for one free refinement. A "refinement" occurs when the doctor sends updated impressions and requests a revision to the originally approved treatment plan. This may be after the patient has partially (mid-course correction) or fully (refinement) completed their clear aligner treatment. Refinements only apply to the same arch(es) that were treated in the original clear aligner case. Standalone retainers and bleach tray orders are not eligible for refinement.

  • Q: How do I submit a refinement?

    A:

Login to Case Submission and select the original clear aligner Case ID. Then, under the "Treatment Plan" tab, simply click the "Request Refinement" button and follow the prompts.

  • Q: Are there a minimum number of case submissions or ongoing CE requirements needed to participate in the MTM® Clear•Aligner Service Center program?

    A:

No. However, to become fully proficient with MTM® Clear•Aligner, we recommend that you treat at least 4-6 cases per year.

  • Q: How long does MTM® Clear•Aligner treatment take? How many appointments are needed for each patient?

    A:

Treatment time can be as little as 3 to 6 months*. The number of appointments is dictated by the number of aligners in the series. It is recommended that one aligner be dispensed approximately every 2-3 weeks.

  • Q: How long must my patient wear the aligners each day?

    A:

As with other aligner treatments, the patient should wear the aligner at all times (day and night), except while eating, drinking hot liquids, or brushing his or her teeth.

  • Q: Do you provide assistance with instructing patients on aligner use and care?

    A:

Each MTM® Clear•Aligner Service Center case shipped to you includes Use & Care Instructions and a sample of Retainer Brite® Cleaning Tablets.

  • Q: Does MTM® Clear•Aligner Service Center offer post-treatment retention?

    A:

Yes. You can order clear retainers, bonded lingual retainers and Hawley retainers from the MTM® Clear•Aligner Service Center. If you prefer to fabricate your own retainers using MTM® Clear•Aligner In-Office, you can order a rapid prototype model of your patient's finished alignment.

  • Q: How does MTM® Clear•Aligner Service Center pricing compare to other aligner treatments?

    A:

MTM® Clear•Aligner is priced competitively — enabling you to offer your patients a highly affordable solution.

  • Q: Is MTM® Clear•Aligner covered by dental insurance?

    A:

If the patient’s policy includes an allowance for orthodontic work, MTM® Clear•Aligner may be covered. Always consult with the patient’s primary insurer before proceeding with the case.

  • Q: What kind of software do I need to submit cases to the MTM® Clear•Aligner Service Center?

    A:

Using the most up-to-date software during case submission helps to produce the best results, while maintaining the security and privacy of your data. Visit our Technical Support pages for information on software configurations and assistance with troubleshooting common issues.

  • Q: Instead of PVS impressions and a bite registration, can I submit digital files from an intraoral scanner?

    A:

Yes. Currently CEREC, Itero, 3M, Carestream and 3Shape digital scans are accepted. Visit our Technical Support pages for detailed information on how to include scans with your online case submission.
Itero, 3M, Carestream and 3Shape are not trademarks of Dentsply Sirona.

  • Q: What are the aligners made of?

    A:

MTM® Clear•Aligner uses plastic that is not made with PVC or BPA.

  • Q: Do I need to perform Interproximal Reduction (IPR) with MTM® Clear•Aligner?

    A:

As with any orthodontic procedure, IPR may be needed to create enough space for teeth to move. We generally recommend a conservative approach using single-sided hand-held strips. This affords you maximum control and helps avoid ledging and soft tissue damage. However, you may also use disks or burs.
